Purchased the VW Golf 103TDI Comfortline Wagon a few weeks ago. I am quite happy with it.

I love the Diesel and DSG combination. Very smooth shifting but it takes a bit of getting used to.

The economy of the diesel is superb, I hit a 4.9L/100km heading out to Melbourne airport and had averaged 5.0L when I got home. Around town, low 6's to 7's. The engine has quite a bit of poke too. It is quite quick, but quiet (almost petrol quiet) and smooth as well. Just how I like it.

I have come from driving another German brand to this and I am still getting used to the ergonomics. I find the cruise control a bit fiddly at first and logos on buttons a bit small. The seats don't have the adjustment that im used to and aren't as wide as im used to. If you're a wider person, make sure you find the seats to your liking first.

The wagon has a triple layer boot floor. Lowest level, a full sized spare, then another compartment on top of that, then the floor on top of that. Shopping bag hooks are handy and two luggage barriers are great for safety.

I recommend the Golf Wagon for those who want a Golf but want more space. It's a fantastic practical car that is super efficient as well.

There are cheaper and more frugal diesels available as well as superior hot-hatches, but none combine all of these attributes quite as well as the Golf GTD. Read more at The Motor Report
